You show your respect for others, and you gain their respect. That's the eternal and universal rule works for people in any communities. So make sure you apply the rule to your field in the proper way. It can be extremely helpful if most part of your job has to deal with people. You put your colleagues and your fellows at ease, they in turn would do you favours. We are looking for a peaceful way here to solve problems rather than the "an eye for an eye" fashion. Because you wanna make more friends but not enemies.
